Kingsport Jaycees History

Gem Theater
Our chapter was born in early 1946, when a group of Bristol Jaycees met with a handful of civic- minded young men and talked about forming a Kingsport Chapter.  The meeting was held in the “Kingsport Inn”.  The idea quickly grew, and in February 1946 the young men met again, drafted a charter and formed the Kingsport Junior Chamber of Commerce.  There were 21 charter members.  On March 26, 1946, we received our official charter from the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce.  The charter was presented at a dinner attended by approximately 250 interested citizens, civic leaders, and other prominent city officials.

The Kingsport Jaycees have been very active in the development of our city.  The primary purpose of the Kingsport Jaycees is leadership training.  This training is accomplished by sponsoring projects that better our community.  We have long been recognized as one of the outstanding Jaycee Chapters in the state of Tennessee and one of the most active young professional groups in the Kingsport area.

Jaycees Creed

We Believe:
That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life.
That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations.
That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise.
That government should be of laws rather than of men.
That earth's great treasure lies in human personality.
And that service to humanity is the best work of life!
